Today the hip-hop music group Salt-N-Pepa was given a big honor with the star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The group formed in 1985 out of New York City with singers Salt (Cheryl James), Pepa (Sandra Denton), and DJ Spinderella (Deidra Roper). Their first hit single “Push It” put them on the map and led to massive success in their career. Over 15 million records have been sold worldwide, making them one of the best selling rap acts of all time. Other hit songs include “Whatta Man” and “None of Your Business”. Additionally, the group has been given multiple awards including both MTV and Grammy Awards. Most recently the Grammys awarded them a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021.

In 2002 the group disbanded then reunited in 2005, however, things were never quite the same after this. In recent years the members have focused on their own personal lives.

Founding member Cheryl “Salt” went on to leave the music industry behind. After changing her life and becoming a Christian, she spent her time strengthening her relationship with God and devoting time to her children, Chapele and Corin. “That meant to me that I needed to shut down a lot of things and focus on God because that was where my healing was, she tells Star Tribune. “I needed to take a beat for myself.”

Other achievements by Salt-N-Pepa, they had a residency in Las Vegas and performed on national tours with acts, such as SWV and Big Daddy Kane.  The Hollywood Star is well deserved. Congratulations!
