Troopers from the Kentucky State Police are investigating the deaths of three people at a home in the 6200 block of KY 136 West in Henderson County’s Smith Mills community. Henderson County Central Dispatch was notified of the shooting around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, according to a KSP release.
When troopers and deputies arrived, they discovered two victims with apparent gunshot wounds outside the residence. According to the release, one female died and another male was taken to a hospital in Evansville, Indiana, where he later died as a result of his injuries. Initial investigations revealed four children and possibly another male subject inside the house. Henderson County authorities activated the Emergency Response Team and the Special Response Team of the Kentucky State Police. Troopers and deputies were able to safely remove all four children from the house in less than an hour.
When the house was cleared, the third male was discovered dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Autopsies for two of the deceased are scheduled for Sunday in Louisville. The identity of the man who was taken to Evansville, Indiana, is unknown. Kentucky State Police and the Henderson County Coroners’ Office are still investigating. Henderson County Sheriff’s Department, Henderson City Police, Henderson County Coroner’s Office, Henderson County EMS/Ambulance, and Smith Mills Fire Department all assisted at the scene, as did Kentucky State Police Post 16 detectives and troopers.
