Music artist and entrepreneur Ye had just finished his show-opening walk in Balenciaga’s Summer 2023 show, then kicked off the opening Season 9 YZY Experience for Paris Fashion week Monday October 3rd. Sources say the opening was last-minute and that Yeezy clothing only arrived in Paris barely a day before the show. Even the YZY SZN PR firm had to be swapped during the planning phases.
The entire showing and official Ye appearance was something for the world to remember. It began with a full livestream presentation including its own artistic twist on real life situations of other people and flashbacks from West’s (Ye) life in a compilation of footage. The film showed a multitude of clips such as John Lennon discussing the dissolution of The Beatles, an interview with Steve Jobs, and even West himself talking about his late mother in an old interview. Reflecting back on situations such his 2016 hospitalization and how he asked for a break in his tour schedule after Kim’s robbery, but his then-manager Scooter Braun told him to stay on the road instead.
Then the event took a turn. “We have me, we have Shayne Oliver, we have the kids who didn’t make it into the house. … We’re starting our own house,” West, wearing a t-shirt featuring a “White Lives Matter” design, said at Monday’s event.
Speaking further on this inarguable level of impact, Ye continued, saying: “We did change the look of fashion over the past 10 years. We are the streets. We are the culture. And we will not be bullied or treated differently than you treat any other fashion show that might start a little bit later just to present the best idea to you.”
Variations on the aforementioned “White Lives Matter” design, which also features an image of Pope John Paul II on the front, were also seen on models in Ye’s show.
The world has been in uproar as pictures circulate the internet of Ye and conservative influencer Candace Owens, in their “White Lives Matter” shirts. Hollywood Unlocked revealed an interview where Charlamagne reacts to the music artist’s actions “Kanye West loves white validation, he longs for it”, among other things.
Charlamagne simply said what many other people are thinking. What are your thoughts?
